Stanners Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2019

The grapes for this Cabernet Franc came from a single vineyard in the Lincoln Lakeshore sub-appellation of the Niagara Peninsula. As with the Prince Edward County wine, the grapes yielded very strong rich, ripe flavours. They were hand harvested then destemmed carefully to whole berries with no crushing. In this case, the grapes came in much colder and took a long time to warm up and ferment taking a total time of 53 days. Interestingly the tannins were softer. The wine was aged in mostly older French oak barrels for 19 months and was not fined or filtered so as to preserve its fine fruit flavours. These are best described as dark cherry and plum and go well with the softer tannins, the latter providing a long satisfying finish. This wine is likely to age gracefully for many, many years.
