Excited to be carrying Steve and Jill Matthiasson's brilliant, benchmark Napa wines back to the market. Matthiasson represents pretty much everything that is best about California wine today, not only for the impeccable quality of the wines in the bottle but furthermore in their leadership and commitment to issues of sustainability, equity and social justice.
These sleek, perfectly balanced expressions of classic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are the end result of Steve's impeccable, meticulous farming, for which he has acquired a reputation as one of the most sought after vineyard management consultants in Napa, overseeing A-listers such as Araujo, Dalla Vale and Spottswoode among others. In the cellar, winemaking is simple but careful, skewing towards minimal intervention, producing wines that are clean, structured and balanced, allowing the fruit of these top vineyard sites to express the power and intensity of flavour which Napa is so renowned for.
All vineyards farmed for Matthiasson’s wines are either certified organic or currently in process of the multi-year certification process. Steve is a co-author of the California Code of Sustainable Winegrowing and incorporates regenerative farming practices as a way to create healthy, living soils and positive environmental impact and champions these techniques as he guides future generations of farmers (including through a hands-on viticulture internship program for urban BIPOC youth).

From the Linda Vista Vineyard in West Oak Knoll, behind Steve and Jill's house. This fruit is picked in a number of different passes to capture acidity and minerality from the early harvests with the later harvests bringing richness and flesh. Whole cluster pressed and fermented by native yeast and aged in neutral barrels, with partial malo. The moderate 12% alcohol and mouthwatering acidity that is a trademark of that vineyard is very much present, balanced by a riper luscious creaminess.
